Digital Surrealism
Realism
Realism captures the essence of the ordinary and familiar world we
recognize as "reality."
Surrealism
Surrealism introduces a creative twist to realism, delving into the
subconscious mind. It focuses on dreamlike imagery and aims to distort the
familiar, challenging conventional notions of reality.
- Surrealism itself defies logic, drawing inspiration from dreams and subconscious thoughts.
- Known as "super-realism" (from the French word surréalisme), it often features strange, symbolic images and bizarre juxtapositions.
- Its hallmarks include dreamlike scenes, unexpected contrasts, and illogical combinations.
Dadaism is an anti-war art movement that is characterized by its satirical,
absurd, and nonsensical approach to art.
Digital surrealism
Surrealism, as a cultural movement, employs diverse forms of art to express
an artist's inner world and ideas. In the digital era, surrealism has become
one of the most celebrated art styles, flourishing through modern digital
mediums.

TUTORIAL
During these weeks, Mr. Fauzi gave us a link to one of his YouTube
tutorials: How to create a loop animation for IG stories.
To explain briefly, creating loop animations for Instagram stories involves
several key steps to enhance audience engagement. Start off by selecting
music that sets the right tone, as it plays a crucial role in communicating
emotions and moods, increasing viewer immersion. During the animation design
process, focus on creativity to produce visually appealing and unique
content that enhances brand awareness. Ensure the animation is optimized for
IG stories by adjusting the ratio and resolution for a seamless viewing
experience. Implement a smooth loop effect to encourage viewers to watch
longer, and include interactive elements like quizzes or stickers to boost
engagement. Regularly analyze the performance of your animations to refine
your content strategy and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement,
contributing to your brand's growth.

Part 3: Poster Development (Week 10)
Below are photos that I have used for my poster design.
Fig. 4.3, Photos used on the poster, (11/11/2024)
After gathering the photos and ideas, I started working on my poster in
Adobe Photoshop. The process of creating my poster was surprisingly
simple and easy thanks to the tutorials that has been given by Mr. Fauzi
beforehand.
I initially opened the Klang River photo first after creating an A4
document and adjusted the size accordingly to use as the background.
I then uploaded the first element, the canvas, into the poster.
Fig. 4.5, Adding the canvas, (19/11/2024)
After that, I imported the typography and vector graphics that I have
made for Illustration and Visual Narrative on Adobe Illustrator into
Photoshop and adjusted the placement:

Illustrator, (20/11/2024)
I started adding the elements that are supposed to be on the top
using new layers, below, I added one of the main focus which is
the person:

and then, I added the paintbrush on a new layer below and I have
also added the typography text from Adobe Illustrator that goes on
top on a new layer.

After I was done with the elements and composition, I started
to adjust the coloring step-by-step. I started off by
adjusting the curves so that I can get the lighting that I'd
want.

I also adjusted the brightness and contrast, and color and hue to
get the final look that I desired. After multiple trials and
errors, here is how the final poster design turned out:
FEEDBACKS
Week 9
General Feedback
Mr. Fauzi told us to start doing our sketches, and he reminded us not to use harmful aspects in our work as it is required to maintain positivity in our work.
Specific Feedback
From the IVN course, Mr. Hafiz gave feedback on the arrangement. The composition seems to be all over the place and still quite messy. I have improved the sketch since receiving the feedback.
Week 10
General Feedback
Mr. Fauzi reminded us to turn in our work during the deadline on Google Classroom.

Experience
During Week 9 until Week 10, the process of creating a poster design from my own photos have provided a valuable opportunity to explore creative techniques and refine design workflows. Starting with initial sketches and gathering ideas, I developed a deeper understanding of translating abstract concepts into visual compositions. The hands-on tutorials by Mr. Fauzi, especially regarding looping animations for Instagram, provided additional insights into engaging design methods. Working through iterations, from sketches to the final poster design, has allowed me to experiment with layers, colors, and visual hierarchy in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Observation
- The integration of multiple tools, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, emphasizes the importance of seamless software workflows in design projects.
- Initial feedback plays a critical role in identifying areas for improvement, particularly in composition and element placement.
- Color adjustment tools, such as curves and hue/saturation, significantly impact the overall mood and aesthetic of a design.
- The process of importing elements from Illustrator into Photoshop is smooth when layers are organized, making it easier to maintain a clean composition.
Findings
- Effective poster design hinges on the balance between creativity and structure, ensuring the message is visually compelling and clear.
- Feedbacks, both that are general and specific, serves as a foundation for iterative improvements and polished outcomes.
- Experimenting with lighting, contrast, and hue adjustments enhances the poster's visual appeal and brings depth to the artwork.
- Surrealism as a style thrives on combining unexpected elements, creating an engaging narrative that challenges conventional design norms.
